Stacey Johnston-Gleason
RESUME: Special Olympics athlete, official, and board member
WHY DID YOU WANT TO BE ON THE BOARD? I look for opportunities to be involved in Special Olympics any way I can. I live in Montana now but I lived in Washington for a long time and I’m very invested with trying to be a voice for the athletes from Washington.
WHAT SPORTS HAVE YOU PLAYED? I’ve competed in 18 different sports. I’m focused more on golf now.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM SPORTS THAT YOU’VE APPLIED TO YOUR LIFE? Sportsmanship, friendship, and the freedom to feel good about yourself.
WHAT WILL IT MEAN FOR SEATTLE TO HOST THE GAMES? I hope people in Seattle get an understanding that the USA Games are a big event but that Special Olympics is happening every day. Athletes train every day and compete several times a year. I also hope it leads to recognition for all that Special Olympics does on the east side of the state of Washington.
WHAT SHOULD ATHLETES SEE WHEN THEY VISIT SEATTLE? I think everyone should see Pike Place Market.
