WHY DID YOU WANT TO BE ON THE BOARD? It’s a chance to be part of something that’s bigger than me, and it’s a chance to represent athletes who are no different from any of us. The same energy, fire, desire, and sacrifice that drove me in the NFL is what drives them.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THE COMPETITORS? You have to have your mind set right. You have to be timed up for the start of that race, or that match, or whatever. You have to cut off all the other distractions and shut out the outside noise. Let your talent show.
WHAT WILL BE THE IMPACT OF THE GAMES IN SEATTLE? Everyone involved with the USA Games is talking a lot about Seattle being a City of Inclusion and I’m hoping that we really shine in that area and show the rest of the world exactly what being inclusive looks like. By including someone you don’t have to exclude someone else. We’re making room at the table for everybody.
WHAT SHOULD ATHLETES SEE AND DO IN SEATTLE? I’d suggest “sandwich shop hopping”. Go from place to place and find the best sandwich. That’s what I’d do on a day off.
