Katie Mackey
RESUME: Professional distance runner for Brooks Beast Track Club. Eight-time All American athlete at the University of Washington.
WHY DID YOU WANT TO BE AN AMBASSADOR? One of the most rewarding aspects for me about being a professional runner is the impact I’m able to have off the track. It’s given me an opportunity to give back. A lot of people have helped me get where I am so the least I can do is find a way to help. This will be a great chance to interact with other athletes and a great organization.
ADVICE FOR COMPETITORS: Have fun. I’ve been a professional runner for eight years and I’ve had lots of ups and downs. Getting 100% of your ability is all up to you and if you’re having fun it’s going to be easier to do. Realize how fun and cool this opportunity is and make the most of it.
HOW WILL SEATTLE REACT TO THE GAMES? Seattle really loves sports. We love to get behind our teams. Running is a bit of a niche sport but when I ran at UW we got tremendous support from the running community. There’s going to be a warm and excited welcome from fans in the city.
WHAT TO DO ON A DAY OFF IN SEATTLE? There’s so much to do. Pike Place Market and the Great Wheel are both great. And there’s so many great parks. Discovery Park, the trail around Green Lake and Magnuson Park are all great.
