Jennifer Dimaris

RESUME:  VP Marketing, JR Simplot Company

WHY DID YOU WANT TO BE A BOARD MEMBER? I was introduced to Special Olympics Washington by some incredible leaders who showed me the impact the organization has had on people’s lives. I was so impressed that I was attracted to the organization so I jumped in. I love the sports and the chance to be involved in something so exciting that just happens to be in Seattle…this was the perfect opportunity. I think the entire world is starting to value inclusion and these games will further that. I’m excited to be a part of that.

WHAT SPORTS DID YOU PLAY? I’m from a family of swimmers and I swam competitively through high school. As an adult I still do a lot of competitive swims. I also played basketball in high school.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM SPORTS THAT YOU’VE APPLIED TO YOUR CAREER? The value of getting to know team members as individuals, what their strengths and weaknesses are, how to communicate and how much fun you can have as a team. It’s fun to watch a team grow beyond what you thought your potential was.

WHAT DO YOU THINK THE GAMES WILL MEAN TO SEATTLE? I think it’s a defining moment for the city. There’s been some incredible things happening within our city politically and in business. We are becoming a city that’s noticed. There’s a lot of entrepreneurial spirit here which attracts a lot of smart people. The opportunity is prime for Special Olympics to be a platform and a great event at a time when Seattle is on the rise.

WHAT SHOULD ATHLETES SEE AND DO WHILE THEY’RE IN SEATTLE? Get on a ferry boat, or go down to Lake Union and rent a kayak. Explore the beauty of Seattle on the water.
